Reports: Astros near deal with reliever Rodney, 43

The Houston Astros are close to signing 43-year-old reliever Fernando Rodney, multiple outlets reported Tuesday.Completion of the deal is pending a physical, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.Rodney, who pitched for the Oakland Athletics and Washington Nationals last season, is currently under contract with the Sugar Land (Texas) Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League.The Astros would be the 12th major league team for Rodney, who is 48-71 with a 3.80 ERA and 327 saves in 951 relief appearances with Tigers, Angels, Rays, Mariners, Cubs, Padres, Marlins, Diamondbacks, Twins, A’s and Nats. He made All-Star teams in 2012, 2014 and 2016.
