Report: Texans considering Crennel to coach in 2021

The Houston Texans are considering removing the interim tag and naming Romeo Crennel their permanent head coach, NFL Network reported Sunday. How long of a contract the Texans would offer him is uncertain. At 73, he’s the oldest head coach in the NFL. And, according to the report, the Texans could be looking to him to fill the role for a shorter term — maybe just the 2021 season — since it’s questionable as to whether they will be able to conduct extensive in-person interviews with candidates amid the coronavirus pandemic.Since the departure of head coach Bill O’Brien – fired on Oct. 4 after an 0-4 start – the Texans are 2-2. He reportedly has won back a locker room that wasn’t that fond of O’Brien.
